Karen Walwyn, Pianist
The Colour of Music Festival offers a musical kaleidoscope highlighting the impact and historical significance of black classical composers and performers on American and world culture.
Karen Walwyn, Concert Pianist and Composer, and a Steinway Artist, made her New York debut at Merkin Hall as a follow-up to her two-CD series for Albany Records entitled Dark Fires, offering premiere recordings of works by American composers of African descent.
Consequently, Walwyn, performed and recorded the premiere recording of the Florence Price Concerto for Piano in One Movement with the New Black Music Repertory Ensemble. Walwyn also is featured in the Grammy Nominated film, The Caged Bird: The life and music of Florence Price, which has been aired nationwide on PBS.
